Softdrive and Oracle Partner to deliver High-Performance Cloud VDI on OCI
Softdrive today announced an expanded collaboration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), reinforcing a long-standing relationship that has powered Softdrive deployments since 2021. This next phase formalizes Softdrive’s position within the OCI ecosystem, establishing it as a supported platform for delivering high-performance cloud VDI at scale.
“Our work with OCI is not new—it’s fundamental to how Softdrive has been built and deployed from the start,” said Leonard Ivey, CEO of Softdrive. “This reflects the progress both teams have made and creates a clearer path for customers to adopt Softdrive within the OCI ecosystem.”
Building on an Established Foundation
Since 2021, Softdrive has deployed its platform on OCI infrastructure, supporting customers running performance-sensitive workloads across engineering, media, and enterprise environments.
This expanded level of partnering brings that experience into a more formal framework—giving organizations confidence that Softdrive is aligned with OCI’s infrastructure, roadmap, and global deployment model.
“OCI is designed for workloads where performance and cost predictability matter,” said Kip Schauer, Media Partnerships, OCI Media Services. “Softdrive has been leveraging that foundation for several years, and this collaboration makes it easier for customers to adopt a proven solution within OCI.”
Why OCI
Running virtual desktops in cloud environments introduces challenges around performance consistency, GPU availability, and cost control—particularly for distributed teams and graphics-intensive workloads.
OCI addresses these challenges through high-performance compute infrastructure, consistent global pricing, and a network architecture designed for low-latency applications. For Softdrive customers, this provides a stable and predictable foundation for both standard CPU and GPU-backed virtual desktops.
The Joint Solution: What It Means for IT Teams
Softdrive running on OCI delivers a simplified approach to deploying and managing modern virtual desktops, without the complexity typically associated with traditional VDI environments.
Together, Softdrive and OCI provide:
- High-performance virtual desktops for CPU and GPU workloads, supporting applications in M&E, AEC, & Enterprise. Performance up to 5x faster than traditional VDI.
- Rapid deployment, allowing for golden image migration and AD integration for environments to be provisioned in hours rather than months
- A unified, simple browser-based management layer for provisioning, monitoring, and scaling desktops
- Predictable low-cost infrastructure, reducing variability in cloud-based VDI environments by 50%
The solution supports both Windows and Linux environments and integrates into existing cloud or hybrid strategies, giving IT teams flexibility without increasing operational overhead.
Softdrive: Designed for Modern Workloads
Softdrive’s architecture is built to deliver a local-like experience for remote users, even in demanding environments. Softdrive has built its own proprietary protocol, Softstream, to help deliver the lowest latency possible to end users. By combining direct access to compute resources with its optimized remote display protocol, the platform enables the fastest responsive interaction with applications that traditionally require physical workstations.
Running on OCI, this approach extends globally, allowing organizations to centralize infrastructure at a significantly lower cost while maintaining performance for distributed teams.
